2024 State Scholastic Championship on March 2 plus Warm-Up on February 25

Nevada Chess will host our Annual 2024 State Scholastic Championship Tournament on Saturday March 2, 2024 at Del Sol Academy for the Performing Arts in Las Vegas, NV. Del Sol is the same location where we held our successful 2023 State Scholastic. We are striving to make 2024 even better!

This year, we have two new sections for lower-rated and unrated players. The K-5 and K-12 Reserve sections are for players rated Under 300 and Under 600 respectively. Unrated players are also welcome to play in these sections.

We are also hosting a Warm-Up Tournament for those registered or considering registering for any section in the State Scholastic on Sunday February 25 at Bridgeopolis Chess Club. This tournament is perfect for kids who will be playing in their first competition and others who would like some practice. Directors will be on hand to answer all questions and introduce kids to tournament Chess.

Youth Players: We’re holding a rated Warm-Up tournament for the State Scholastic

Nevada Chess, the official State Affiliate for USCF, will hold a rated tournament with four rounds of G/20+10 on Sunday, February 25 @ 1:00pm at Bridgeopolis Chess Club in Las Vegas. The tournament is open to all players who are registered or are considering registering for any section of the State Scholastic tournament on March 2 at Del Sol HS in Las Vegas. This tournament is perfect for unrated and low-rated players to become introduced to Tournament Chess as well as those with more experience in order to “warm-up” before the statewide competition. Directors will be available to answer all questions from first-time players. The registration fee is only $25 by Feb. 23. Information and registration can be found on the King Registration website

There is a 40-player maximum for this event. As of Monday 2/19 @ 12 noon, we have 17 players registered

Nevada Chess is proud to announce the details for the 2024 State Seniors Championship

Nevada Chess, the official State Affiliate for USCF, will hold the annual State Seniors Championship during the weekend of March 22-24, 2024 at Bridgeopolis Chess Club in Las Vegas. The tournament, open to all Nevada residents who have reached Age 50 or will do so prior to July 26, 2024, will have five rounds of G90+30. USCF Membership is required. A minimum $1000 prize pool is included. The winner will advance to the national John T. Irwin Tournament of State Senior Champions to be be held July 27-30 in Norfolk, VA. Nominations for Nevada Chess Board of Directors

Nevada Chess, Inc., the State Affiliate of the United States Chess Federation (USCF), has three of the seven Director positions available for (re)election.

Directors serve two-year terms. Directors are unpaid and responsible for overseeing and coordinating all Nevada statewide competitions for USCF and submitting winners to USCF National Tournaments.

Directors must be over age 18, current members of USCF in good standing, and reside in Nevada with a Nevada mailing address. Nominations may be submitted to elections@nevadachess.org before the deadline of March 6, 2024 at 11:59pm PST.

If there are more than three nominations, all current USCF members in Nevada will be eligible to vote for candidates in a manner to be announced shortly after the nomination period closes.

Nevada Chess supports USCF’s efforts for Safe Play

At a Board Meeting held on February 5, 2024, Nevada Chess voted unanimously to affirm and support USCF’s efforts to require Safe Play training. The USCF has mandated all TDs must complete the training prior to June 1, 2024 and Nevada Chess encourages all TDs in Nevada to do so as soon as possible.
