1998 Northern Nevada Championship Results
Posted in News on July 1st, 1998 by Nevada ChessThe Northern Nevada Championship has progressed through the finals, with quarter-final results Sheryka over Wyatt 3-0, Bartkus over Bayati 3.5-0.5, Ryba over Weikel 3.5-0.5, and Straver over Wermer 3-0.The semi-final six game matches paired David Sheryka (1982) vs Gytis Bartkus (2067) and David Ryba (2111) vs Edwin Straver (2135). Both Davids lost to set up Straver vs Bartkus in the final six game match, which has now progressed through the fifth game.
Edwin Straver leads with 1 win and 4 draws, requiring Bartkus to win the last game with black to tie the match and force a playoff.
Straver won the championship.
