Nevada Blitz Challenge

Schoolhouse Chess Center, Las Vegas

March 19th, 2006

24 players participated in this annual blitz extravaganza run by John Trivett and this year hosted by the Schoolhouse Chess Center.  This year's tournament, as in previous years, was a 5 round, double-round Swiss.

The field was extremely tough this year with half of the players rated over 2000, although it could have been argued that both Eric Baugus and Richard Judy should also have been included in this group despite their below 2000 ratings!

The tournament winner ended up being non other than our own International Master, David Vigorito.  David swept the entire field with a perfect 10 out of 10 and then later on in the evening David kept his good form going to beat Grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura in an online blitz game at the Internet Chess Club that evening!

Coming in second was visiting Master Aleksander Stamnov, along with local experts Chris Bird and Greg Niemi who all scored 7 points.

All players enjoyed lashings of pizza and soda to help the afternoon go by cheerfully.  The tournament was capably run by John Trivett with a little assistance at the computer from Chad Gauvin.
