1st Annual Las Vegas Open, September 4-5, 1999

(Sponsored by the Rainbow Chess Club, held at The Orleans)

In the OPEN - Dennis Monokroussos won clear lst and $ 220. Denis Marrero-Tom Thrush-Jorge Barrios-John Blackstone and Ron Gross tied for 2nd and 3rd winning $ 35 each.

In the AMATEUR - Jack Cashman and Ranen Lardent tied for lst and collected $ 130 each.

In the RESERVE - Francisco Vela was lst for $ 130 and Camelo Fabia picked up $ 80 for 2nd.

In the OTHER PRIZES CATEGORY - U2200 Tom Thrush and Jorge Barrios each won $ 50. ( This posed a bit of a problem since each player was only eligible to receive one prize. Since USCF does not like to have the players choose a prize -they were each awarded $ 50 instead of the $ 35 above )

U1900 - Gordon Barrett - Neil Bonrud and Tom Klem each won $25. And the U1500 was won by Alan Amici who collected $ 70.

Total prizes actually paid were $ 1040. All players were thanked for their good sportsmanship and competitive games. Frank Pye acted as Chief Arbiter and there was nary a squabble !

Some photos of the event were taken by Sven and Jack Cashman is doing a games bulletin and is available for $3 if you hurry -else $5. The players and friends all signed a card for John Trivett.
